Running out of Internet???

So I just watched this ...

And whilst I didn't quite understand every last detail, I do get the jist of it. There are a specific number of internet addresses , 4 billion, and we are closing in on that number. Is this the new Y2K, no but I am willing to bet that the Media Outlets will start saying that next year. So what can you do and what is the solution. 1) There is nothing you the general consumer can do. 2) The ISPs and other content providers just need to switch over to a different address system called IPv6. Don't worry your computer is already ready to find these new addresses. Seems easy but it will take a huge amount of time to convert the web to this new system. Google has started, I think facebook should follow, and soon everyone else will fall in line. And then we can keep on keeping on with the internet and continue using up those addresses on stuff like this (click more than once its different everytime) ....

Comic-Con, I wish I was there...

San Diego Comic-Con International
Am I a nerd for watching Live-blogs of panels going on at the San Diego Comic-Con.... No I am a nerd for loving to watch Live-blogs of panels going on at the San Diego Comic-Con! And dont even get me started on LiveBlogs of the Apple press events cause I watch those too. There is just something about watch/reading whats going on live somewhere that thrills me. I can't make it to Comic-Con and the local Con, MegaCon, is alright. (Perhaps in another feature I can write about the potential of this con and its current under use.) But being able to feel the excitement from the other side of the continent makes me happy. For instance this evening I watched the Live-blog of the Marvel Studios Captain America/Thor Panel, and it was awesome! First they showed footage of Captain America, including shots of the new costume (no not that one).... I couldn't see it but it sounded great. Then the Thor trailer in 3D ... again I couldnt see it but still.... And then they announced the logo for the Avengers movie! Followed by the entire cast of the Avengers movie. It was thrilling!!  Then I trolled twitter until I found a blurry twitpic of them. Ahhhh what a way to spend a saturday night. ..... I swear I am not quite as sad as I seem ....
Here is a screen cap of the awesomeness!!

Nerd Expansion: Doctor Who

Countdown to Infinite CrisisImage via Wikipedia
Allow me to tell you a story about a young geek oh so long ago. He was just a general geek, he liked videogames, computers and new of comic book characters but had never read one ever. So this nerd went to his local comic shop and told the purveyor of paper that he was a geek but was looking to expand into full on nerd by reading his first comic. He handed this newfound nerd "Countdown to Infinite Crisis" and he loved it. And now it is time once again for this anonymous nerd to expand his horizons. Doctor Who is not new by any means but he is new to me. And seeing that I am currently in the summer TV drought  I thought that I might as well see what all the hub bub is about. For those of you not in the know a quick search of wikipedia has informed me of this:

Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The programme depicts the adventures of a mysterious and eccentric humanoid alien known as the Doctor who travels through time and space in his spacecraft, the TARDIS (an acronym for Time And Relative Dimension In Space), which normally appears from the exterior to be a blue 1950s British police box. With his companions, he explores time and space, faces a variety of foes, and rights wrongs.
So this show has been around for 5 decades... thats a lot to catch up on so I have to get going... Here is the trailer for the latest season that is about to end on BBC America.

After I have a few seasons under my belt I will give y'all an update.

As I strolled across the internet I found these great posters from Mondo, a shop in Austin that creates custom posters and T-shirts. These great posters are from their Alamo Drafthouse Series, where they create posters for the movies the theater is showing that week. This is an example of true creativity, and I am jealous, I wish I could create something so awesome. If you like these check the sources and make sure to buy something I know I will.

Hyrule located in real world!

I love The Legend of Zelda. That is not just a statement it is a fact. I have the Hylian Crest tattooed to my right forearm (seriously).

Anyway looks like the Forest Temple has been found in the Ta Prohm Temple in Angkor, Cambodia.

Douch-Bagel: BROS icing Bros.

Stop what you are doing right now, and know this, there is an internet meme trying to take over the minds of fraternity brothers around the country, nay world... Bros Icing Bros. Make no mistake there are douches running around the country Icing each other. What does this meme entail, well it involves "bros" or "tools" you know the type sneaking up on each other and presenting a disgusting Smirnoff Ice beverage that they must drink on one knee. As seen in the clip below:

Luckily now that you know you can do as comedian Daniel Tosh and stop this meme before its too late!

Now you know and knowing is half the battle... G.I. JOE!!

Movie Review: Inception

Inception (film)Image via Wikipedia
Inception that is the title not just of a movie but an idea, one that I believe has proven without a shadow of doubt that Christopher Nolan is one of the creative greats of our generation. On par with Akira Kurosawa, Stanley Kubrick, or Steven Spielberg, able to not only create as an architect, but to populate these stories with some of the most compelling characters ever, as a dreamer. His previous efforts Memento, The Prestige, and of course Batman Begins & The Dark Knight, all have been a precursor to this his most ambitious film yet.

What you should know going into Inception is that most people will think to compare this movie to The Matrix, while there are certain similarities such as alternate worlds, and the sleep state you enter to get to them, that is where they end. Inception proves that while summer is for action it can also be for thought provoking thrillers, and Inception blends them seamlessly. The limited action pieces are spectacular, "limited" only in that this movie uses them as necessary for the story not just moving our characters from set piece to set piece. The "lack" of action sequence are made up by being some of the most innovative fights and explosions around especially once the laws of physics get turned around. You know what they say quality over quantity. What Nolan has a natural knack for is pacing, and in this movie it is a constant train rolling through the proverbial street gaining speed and immediacy until the kick. For 2 1/2 hours this movie is able to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, when not the action then through the witness and explanation of the amazing feats people can preform in dreams. Whether it is bending a city or washing up on the shores of ego ,   Image via io9
there is always spectacular imagery on screen. Finally when it comes to getting this movie, as I explained to my girlfriend (which I have a feeling will have to be done for some in your viewing party as well) is that with each "layer" the cast goes deeper the closer we get to the thematic core of the movie. On layer 1 its about a reverse heist, on layer 2 its about an idea, so on and so forth, but at its deepest layer this movie is about overcoming guilt. The cast's performances, of whom Nolan has been able to create great archetypes and memberable characters, are superb. Leonardo Dicaprio' man on the brink, to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, easily the action star of this film, and Ellen Page's naive student cum therapist are the stand outs to this reviewer.

When condsidering your own personal list of favorite movies it is important to not only take in the movie itself but the context in which you first saw it. The first time you saw Star Wars, or The Matrix, those represented a paradigm shift in what you thought was possible in a movie let alone that a human mind could create something that revolutionary. When Inception ended I was immediately hit with this shift, I was speechless, a feat that I can honestly say may never have happened before. I still find it difficult to explain why this movie has effected me in this way. But to this reviewer Inception could be one of the greatest movies I have ever seen, and whole heartedly recommend it to everyone.

Nerd Expansion: Custom Action Figures

Nerd Expansion will be a feature where we expand on a type of nerd that maybe you have never heard of and explain why some people can make it so awesome.
A few days ago I did a post on some modified My Little Ponies, it reminded me that I have seen other modded toys through my travels across the internet. Now for your pleasure awesome custom action figures!

Starting with these Transformer Action Figures. Builder Frenzy Rumble can create scratch built action figures or sometimes he takes the old action figures you had as a kid cleans them up and repaints them with high quality and detail resulting in absolutely gorgeous photo-real action figures from the recent movies or the ultimate G1 Transformers that look just like the old cartoon. He is considered an authority when it comes to custom transformers and you can tell why.

Next is Sillof, this prolific builder has created not just a action figure here or there but often times an entire line. His eclectic taste for Steam Punk has allowed him to create line after line of extraordinary action figures. Sillof creates his action figures by canabalizing other figures in the hopes of creating the ultimate action figure. He then puts in fine details and creates custom accessories and clothing. His imagination and creativity are unparalleled in the custom figure space. I will be seeing him next month at Star Wars Celebration V, but you can peep him here.

Thats all for this edition of Nerd Expansion. Let us know in the comments if there are other custom figures you have found on the internet.

FYI

Inception = amazing. Full review to come.

Geek Out: 1st Look at Green Lantern Movie!

Holy Cow!! This is me literally geeking out right now. I love the Green Lantern, favorite comic superhero. I can not wait for this movie. Alright, calm down now, breathe..... OK.

Time for some analyses from the looks of it GL's costume will be pretty heavily CG'd.... Which I am not crazy about. It kinda looks like it is growing out of his ring, which is spot on glad they didn't change that. Like the chest piece, not to crazy about the glowing lines all over the place. Overall, the costume is meh, I kinda hoped it would be more pratical than CG. But this news can only mean one thing... The San-Diego Comic-Con is next week! Nerds rejoice as everything you care about is celebrated and paraded about for you to enjoy! Let me know in the comments what you think about the costume.

You know you wished your sister played with these

SO FREAKIN AWESOME! Or at least thats what I would say if it weren't for the fact that these are technically girls toys. If it weren't for my laughable knowledge of sports I might be confident enough in my masculinity to admit to liking these. So if you are man enough check out all 50 of them at the source!

AVENGERS ENSEMBLE!!!

text describing the image

Hey look at this! This is the beginning of Marvel's Expanded Movie Universe! Next up Captain America, then all aboard the crazy train that is The Avengers! For those of you who dont know The Avengers are Marvel Comics (Thats Iron-Man, X-men, Spider-man, and other hyphen names) super team. What does that mean for a movie goer? Well its a mega super huge budget action flick with a million big named actors who all want better pay than the last trying to beat the crap out of evil-doers (needed one more hyphen). And I for one couldn't be more excited. For the general public to finally experience what comic nerds have known for literally ever, having continuity makes for better fiction!! There I said it!

Welcome to The Interwebs JJ

Reminded of a Fat Baby? ... I am.

When I look at this thing I think 1) What the hell is a marmot? and 2) Why am thinking about Chunk from the Goonies? The answer to one of these questions is as follows.

From Wikipedia:

Marmots are generally large ground squirrels. Those most often referred to as marmots tend to live in mountainous areas such as theAlps, northern Apennine Mountains, Eurasian steppes, Carpathians, Tatra, and Pyrenees in Europe, the Rockies, the Black Hills, and theSierra Nevada in the United States, northern Canada, Deosai plateau in Pakistan, and Ladakh in India. The groundhog, however, is also properly called a marmot, while the similarly-sized but more social prairie dog is not classified in the genus Marmota but in the related genus Cynomys.

The Countdown has begun...

In a month my friend and I will be attending this...

He sent this to me as a reminder of the epic time that will be had. I will be sure to take pics to share with the world. I look forward to sharing both the spectacular and the spectacularly horrible. As a self-professed nerd I will be the first to admit when things go from cool nerdy to creepy nerdy to scary nerdy, and I hope to share at least 1 example of each with you.

So this here robot the Spruce Deuce is just one of the many reasons we don't want to teach our future robot masters how to play music. 1) With out the uniquely human trait of creating art (in this case music) then what need will our Machined Gods have for us? & 2) If all music bots have such creepy eyes then how will we sleep at night, as they stare at us while playing sexy music in the breeding pits that humanity is kept in?
